I know there are so many ways to start class, and I'm sure you love yours, but incorporating Class Officials was a game-changer for me! I was hesitant about implementing it, but one of my goals
I have always felt stressed about how many things teachers are supposed to accomplish in one short period (ours are 55 minutes). Stay in the power zone, make sure you identify your goal for the class period, give the homework and have them write it down, do bell work and hold them accountable for it, have a word of the day or week, etc. It was always swirling around in my head and I felt like I didn't have one place where students could write these things down and feel some kind of organization about it all.
That's why I started doing this Beginning of Class Routine. (You can also find this on my store website.) It was so helpful for me!
THEN, Parthena Draggett was my presenter at the Pre-AP conference I went to last year, and she introduced the idea of Class Officials. With this, STUDENTS begin class FOR YOU - IN SPANISH! It is a dream-like scenario. You will love it AND your students will love it.
Basically, this is what you do:
1. Have students nominate people for El/La Presidente, Vice Presidente, Secretario/a, y Tesorero/a
2. Make an official "election" (I usually use Google Forms for this).
3. Announce the officials to the class. They will be officials for however long you think is a good amount of time. In order to give everyone a chance, you may want to try every 4-5 weeks. Plus that changes it up quite a bit.
4. Print off these scripts and laminate them!

5. Put the scripts in a folder that students can easily access. That way, they can start class without asking you where the scripts are.
6. The officials can start class. Their job is to tell the weather, time, goal for the week, word/phrase of the week, homework due today and tomorrow, etc. You could add more/subtract to make it easier for you and make it work for your class! :)
That's it! It's so easy and fun, and I truly enjoyed doing this last year! :)
Happy Almost School Year!
